Internship Positions:
Campus Organizer

Available: Fall 2009, Spring 2009

 

Compensation: This position is unpaid.  NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut will help secure academic credit if applicable.

 

Summary: NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut is the political leader of the pro-choice movement in Connecticut.  We work to elect pro-choice candidates into state office and lobby the state legislature to pass proactive pro-choice legislation through our grassroots organizing, education, and outreach efforts.  Campus Organizer interns will work with students, NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut staff, and allies to strengthen the role of students in grassroots organizing on choice issues and the presence of NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut on campus.  The Campus Organizer intern will also be responsible for planning and implementing specific events on campus related to reproductive choice days of action.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an organizing plan and goals
  • Develop and implement creative outreach strategies to attract pro-choice students, faculty, and staff on campus
  • Plan for and coordinate events for reproductive choice days of action
  • Identify opportunity on campus to conduct outreach and to expand the campus base of activism
  • Conduct education & outreach activities on campus
  • Coalition build with student organizations on campus

Communications & Online Advocacy Intern

Available: Fall 2009/Winter 2009-2010/ Spring 2010

 

Compensation: This position is unpaid.  NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut will help secure academic credit if applicable.

 

Summary: NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut is the political arm of the pro-choice movement in Connecticut, leading lobbying efforts at the State Capitol and mobilizing voters across the state.  We are the state’s pro-choice leader because of our grassroots organizing, education and outreach on issues associated with reproductive justice.  Communications Interns will be given the opportunity to work with both new and traditional forms of media.  NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut is looking to expand our online presence via our websites, a blog, MySpace and Facebook pages, as well as other communications needs such as email alerts, newsletters, and press releases.  The Communications Intern will be responsible for updating our on-line communications tools and for monitoring state and local newspapers for earned media opportunities.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining current and developing new MySpace and Facebook page
  •  Updating NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut website
  • Outreach to blogs and press about NARAL events, releases, etc.
  • General support to press operations

 

Qualifications:

  • Internet Skills
  • Online writing experience
  • Strong personal commitment to a woman’s right to choose

Development Intern

Available: Fall 2009/Winter 2009-2010/Spring 2010

 

This position is unpaid.  NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut will help secure academic credit if applicable.

 

The only way NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut can do its work is with money! Development interns will gain insight into every aspect of the organization: assisting with event planning including house parties; preparing mail; developing donor communications around media; and researching the background and giving potential of major donors and foundation funders. Development is an exciting field for those looking for a career in non-profits – everyone needs to fundraise and this internship will help you establish highly marketable skills for the future. People who know how to fundraise get hired!

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The intern will assist with all aspects fundraising, including coordinating mailings, donor research and data base entry. 
  • Assist with cultivation and fundraising events, including tracking RSVPs, creating invite and program materials and troubleshooting on the day of the event.
  • Work with the finance and membership department on various fundraising campaigns and tracking the results.
  • Assist the Development department with administrative tasks, such as filing, coordinating travel and online research.

Graphic Design Intern

Summary:

NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut is the political arm of the pro-choice movement in Connecticut, leading lobbying efforts at the State Capitol and mobilizing voters across the state.  We are the state’s pro-choice leader because of our grassroots organizing, education and outreach on issues associated with reproductive justice.  Graphic Design interns will be encouraged to use their creativity to design NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut materials, on-line marketing campaigns, webpage design, and much more.  Our pro-choice messages need to reach Connecticut residents and we need your help to make our materials reflect that urgency.    

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut marketing materials
  • Design on-line marketing campaign materials
  • Enhance the NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut website

 

Qualifications:

  • Creativity and vision
  • Currently studying or past study of Graphic Design
  • Strong personal commitment to a woman’s right to choose

Policy Intern

 

Available: Fall 2009/Winter 2009-2010/Spring 2010

Summary:

NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut is a leader in promoting state policies that protect and encourage healthy reproductive choices.  We work closely with some of Connecticut’s most influential policy makers on pro-choice legislation.  Policy interns will participate in every phase of policy development: conducting research, developing messaging, assisting with lobbying activities, coalition building, and much more.  Policy interns will get to experience the Connecticut General Assembly and lawmaking from a pro-choice perspective.  The skills you will learn as an intern and the people you will meet will help you establish highly marketable skills for the future.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

·        Assist with research on reproductive health policy.

·        Transform research into policy recommendations.

·        Assist in developing messaging and lobbying materials.

·        Attend coalition meetings.

·        Organize and participate in press conferences and lobby days.

 

Qualifications:

·        A strong interest in policy and reproductive healthcare

·        Outgoing personality and willingness to pitch in where needed

·        Creativity and drive

Political Action Intern

 

Available: Spring 2010/Summer 2010/Fall 2010

 

This position is unpaid.  NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut will help secure academic credit if applicable.

 

 

NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut is the political arm of the pro-choice movement in Connecticut.   Political Action interns will gain insight into every aspect of the endorsement process: assisting with candidate questionnaires and endorsement decisions; preparing mail; developing political action strategies; and participating in endorsed candidate activities including phone banking and literature drops.  Endorsing pro-choice candidates and working to get those candidates elected is crucial to securing women’s reproductive choice.  The 2008 election season will be an exciting time for the United States and Connecticut.  The skills you will learn as an intern and the people you will meet will help you establish highly marketable skills for the future.  People who are passionate about the political process and reproductive rights get hired!

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The intern will assist will all aspects of the endorsement process, including coordinating mailings, candidate research, and date base entry.
  • Assist with questionnaire development and collection
  •  Develop pro-choice campaign messaging and slogans
