Tell Your Legislators to Protect Reproductive Health Services
The Governor’s Proposed Budget included numerous cuts to reproductive health services, including: $200,000 cut to Family Planning Services, $2.5 million cut to AIDS/HIV Services, Eliminations of funding for the Fetal & Infant Mortality Review programs, Elimination of funding for Prenatal Services for Pregnant Women Who Don’t Qualify for Medicaid, and Elimination of funding for the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Block Grants
The Appropriations Committee just released their budget in response to the Governor’s proposed budget after hearing from concerned state leaders, advocates, and members of the public. In their budget, the Appropriations Committee restored funding to the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Block Grants and $1.7 million to AIDS/HIV services. The Appropriations Committee also funded another legislative priority of NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut—the Family Planning Waiver. In order to be eligible for Medicaid, you must be pregnant or a parent. The Family Planning Waiver would allow individuals of child bearing age who do not already have children to receive family planning services in order to prevent an unintended pregnancy. For every $1 that Connecticut invests in the Family Planning Waiver, the Federal Government will give Connecticut 90¢ back!
