Sex Education
Sex education is maybe one unit amongst an entire health curriculum that high school students receive in Connecticut. High school is way too late to be teaching sex education and sex education needs to be an ongoing discussion, not a one time unit. Comprehensive, Medically Accurate and Age Appropriate Sex-EdComprehensive sex education is responsible and balanced sexuality education that seeks to assist young people in understanding a positive view of sexuality, provide them with information and skills about caring for their sexual health, and to help them acquire skills to make decisions now and in the future. It is medically accurate and provides information about abstinence and contraceptives as tools to prevent unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Healthy Teens Connecticut NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut is currently working in coalition with a variety of oraganizations to pass healthy teens legislation. If passed, "healthy teens" will provide incentive grants to school boards of education to provide comprehensive, medically accurate and age appropriate sex education to students and trainings for parents and teachers.
